Blu-ray movies report significant rise in sales for 2011
Blu-ray movie sales seem to have made a big impact this Year, more than expected by industry trends.
Not surprisingly, November and December have traditionally been the peak months for sales of Blu-ray movies, this trend seems to be following suit this Year. Industry has seen a big increase in sales prior to these festive Months though, with an increase of around 5% in European sales.
Many consider that this boom is purely related to newer Blu-ray titles like The Lion King, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and Star Wars. This would explain this rise in sales, considering the magnitude of followers these titles command.
One in six families
One out of every six households enjoys their movies in high definition. Animated films are the most popular, with action films following closely. Classics like “Doctor Zhiavgo”, “Ben Hur” and “The Bridge over the river Quai” take top spot for the most popular gift at Christmas.
Blu-ray 3D
A steady rise in 3D Blu-ray films becoming available has encouraged manufacturers to make 3D capability integrated in TV’s and Blu-ray players.
Some 3D popular titles available include:
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – 3D
- Pirates of the Caribbean, On Stranger Tides 3D
- 3D Tron Legacy
- Ice Age 3D
Could this mean that 3D has finally taken a firm foothold?
Here at followtechnology.co.uk, we think that TV shows and even comedians like (lee Evans) releasing 3D versions of their new titles are a sure sign the industry is changing. This can only spark the attention of larger production companies and film makers to get involved in the 3D at home experience.
